Laura A. Green

Laura A. Green is the Executive Director of the non-profit Drug Policy Forum of Kansas, DPFKS, incorporated in the state of Kansas in 2005. The mission of DPFKS is to promote innovative policies and approaches to reduce the harms of both drug use and drug prohibition. The mission also extends to increasing public and political debate and support for cost effective and humane alternatives to the current criminal justice approach to drug policy.

Ms. Green was one of seven founding board members of the Therapeutic Horse Riding Instruction of Lawrence, Inc. (THRIL),a not for profit charity promoting the healing benefits of horse riding for disabled and disadvantaged children and adults. She is a graduate of the eighth City of Lawrence Police Citizen’s Academy. Ms. Green sponsored the KU NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) chapter from 1993-1995, and in 1996 founded Kansans for Medical Marijuana. This organization lobbied the Kansas Legislature on behalf of critically ill patients and their caregivers for a bill shielding them from prosecutions for using marijuana as medicine.

Ms. Green was raised in Kansas, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a BA from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a master’s certification in Project Management from the Project Management Institute at George Washington University in Washington D.C. She also attended the University of Copenhagen, and is a resident of the United Kingdom where she lived and worked for many years.

Ms. Green has authored a legislative guide to medical marijuana, a traveling exhibit about the war on drugs and been an invited lecturer at several drug policy conferences. She has published letters to the editor in leading publications and newspapers and is involved in many national drug policy reform organizations, including Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, and Students for Sensible Drug Policy.

Ms. Green lives in Lawrence, Kansas.
